Sports Scholarships

Sports Scholarships are available to new students entering Years 7 to 11 who currently compete at a high level in one or more of RGS's priority core sports.

Sports Scholarships are available for students who currently compete at State or National level or have been selected in a talent identification programme, in one or more of RGS’s priority core sports - Cricket, Netball, Rowing, Rugby (League and Union), and Touch Football. The Scholarships are offered based on the applicant's performance and achievements in their chosen sport, as well as evidence of their sound record of academic performance and good behaviour and effort. Students awarded a Scholarship must comply with the terms and conditions of the RGS Scholarship programme, commit to the School’s values and actively participate and contribute to the wider School community.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for an Academic Scholarship at RGS, applicants must: 

  • Be entering Years 7 to 11 in 2025; 
  • Be a new enrolment to the School;
  • Have demonstrated strength in an RGS priority core sport (Cricket, Netball, Rowing, Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Touch Football) and be competing at State or National level, or in a representative/talent identification pathway programme;
  • Have a record of sound academic performance and good behaviour and effort;
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian Permanent Residence Visa.
How to Apply
Step One

Applicants are required to complete an RGS Scholarship application form, including uploading supporting documentation (outlined below).

Step Two

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to attend an interview with the Headmaster. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised. 

Step Three

If a Scholarship offer is accepted, an RGS Application for Admission must be completed.

Supporting Documents

The following supporting documents are required when submitting an RGS Scholarship application form:

  • Last three Semester school reports
  • Latest NAPLAN report
  • A letter of application (single-sided, A4) from the student addressed to the Headmaster, Dr Phillip Moulds. Applicants are encouraged to provide evidence in their application letter of their sporting achievements, leadership skills and their desire to engage with school life at RGS.
  • Two written referees' reports outlining the applicant's suitability for a Sports Scholarship. Referee reports should be from a school/club/representative coach or teacher.
Value

Successful students will be awarded a Scholarship ranging from 25% - 75%, applicable to tuition fees, and where applicable, boarding fees. The Scholarship does not apply to any other School fees, including levies, uniforms, textbooks and supplies, co-curricular costs, excursions, camps etc.

Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Headmaster.
