Routley reps regional Qld
Rockhampton Grammar School Year 11 student Austen Routley (pictured) is preparing to test his rugby union skills against some of the best in Australia at the National Under-16 Championships on the Gold Coast from 24-30 September. He will play in the Queensland Red team, playing at either centre or wing.
“It’s an unreal feeling to be able to represent the state in such a great sport,’’ Austen said.
“I’m overwhelmed to have been given the chance at such a high level.”
Austen was identified through the Combined session held at Rugby Park and he was also closely watched during the School’s performances at the Ballymore Cup and John Elders Cup competitions earlier in the year.
“I’m happy to be taking on the challenge and hope to make my School proud.”
Austen was a member of the RGS 1st XIII rugby league team which won the 2017 Confraternity Shield.
In both the Queensland Red and Queensland White teams Austen is the only player from a school outside of south-east Queensland.
