Headmaster's Resume

The son of a teacher, Islay Raymond Lee completed his secondary education at Richmond River High School in Lismore, NSW, before studying Education at Sydney University.

He began his teaching career in 1973 at Birrong Boys' High School and then taught at Auburn Central Primary School and Sydney Boys' High School before moving to Queensland and The Southport School in 1980.

Islay spent eleven years at TSS in various roles including Rowing Master, Sports Master and Director of Activities. In the latter role he was responsible for all boarding and the co-curriculum. During his final seven years at Southport, Islay coached five winning Head of the River crews.

In 1992, Islay was appointed Deputy Headmaster of The King's School, Parramatta. He claims that the four years he spent working with the Headmaster, Jonathan Wickham were invaluable and stood him in good stead to lead his own school.

This happened in 1996, when he was appointed Headmaster of The Rockhampton Grammar School. He is the eighth man to occupy the position since 1881.

Islay has been involved with rowing for most of his life. He is an Olympian, has been a national selector, is a former President of Rowing Australia, is a Life Member of Sydney Rowing Club and now coaches girls at his School.

Islay is married to Linda and they have two children, Kate and Angus.
