Coaches and Teams
Opti-MINDS is a Gifted and Talented Programme available to both primary and secondary students. The Primary School only enters teams every second year alternating with the musical. Students work as a group under the leadership of seniors for term 2 and then form a team of seven. Early in term 3 they are given the set problems and have six weeks to prepare a presentation in response to either a Social Science, a Language/Literature or a Maths/Engineering problem.
All students are invited to participate and it is an opportunity for gifted and talented students to use their skills. Teamwork is an essential skill. Seniors act as mentors.
Mrs G. Whittall, the co-ordinator, is responsible for all the teams and their progress. Mrs Kenny will also be working with teams. The teams have student mentors who are previous participants of the competition and are there to guide the teams in their preparation and performance.
We have had a primary team go through to National level and in 2007 our Open Social Science Team represented Queensland in the International Competition.
Cost
There is a registration fee of $8 and incidental expenses will be incurred for props and costumes. There are minimal as the organization encourages the use of recycled materials.
Calendar of Events
The competition for 2008 is on the 30th August at the North Rockhampton State high School
Uniforms
There are no uniforms issued. Costumes are made by students from recycled materials for the performance day.
