Every two years the Primary Department present an entertaining and professional musical to the region. Staged at the Pilbeam Theatre, it comprises students from Years 4-7. Students in these year levels have the opportunity to audition for a performing role, whether it be a principal or chorus character, or help in the backstage or behind the scenes roles of the production.
The children rehearse 2-3 times a week developing and refining their skills in the facets of voice, dance and drama.
The musical is presented in the professional facilities of Rockhampton's Pilbeam Theatre and use sound, lighting, costumes and sets.
In 2002, over 70 students performed "Santa Knows Best", a delightful, comedic, Christmas musical, which was received supportively by a large crowd.
In 2004, the Primary reached un-precedented standards with ANNIE JR. This smaller, condensed version of the Broadway Musical involved the same characters, storyline and music as in the full Broadway show. It proved to be a sight to be seen. With a cast of 50 students, the musical was staged in front of a sellout crowd on Friday 17 September 2004 and also performed to a very large crowd at their matinee performance on Thursday 16 September. It was the first time that the Broadway Junior version of Annie was performed in Rockhampton. Audiences commented on the professional standard of the performance and the amazing standard of the primary aged performers who pulled off their characters perfectly.
This high standard was repeated in 2006 with the production of Merideth Willson's THE MUSIC MAN JR. With a cast of over 60 students, this entertaining musical included a school's performance and two night performances at the Pilbeam Theatre. Audiences commented on the exciting choreography, outstanding talent and the amazing costumes that filled the stage.
In 2008, the Primary School will present Disney's ALADDIN JR at the Pilbeam Theatre on September 11, 12 and 13.
Costs
Cast/Crew: Approx. $25, which covers the cost for a Production T-Shirt
Uniforms
The crew is expected to wear the T-shirt throughout the performance week, with their own black trousers and closed shoes. Cast and crew wear school uniform to after school rehearsals and casual clothing to weekend and theatre rehearsals, with closed shoes. Cast shoes must be suitable for dance rehearsals.
Performance Dates
This year's performance will be held at the Pilbeam Theatre. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the theatre.
