Pastoral Care

Pastoral CarePastoral care and personal development, including courses in human relationships, guest speakers on relevant topics and regular tutorial lessons with 'form' teachers, are integrated into the school curriculum. Parent-teacher meetings are arranged at convenient times throughout the year and parental input into a child's education is always appreciated and encouraged. Written progress reports are an important link with parents and are forwarded regularly throughout the year.

All students at The Rockhampton Grammar School are special members of a school family and are recognised as individuals. Senior members of staff are responsible for the care of students at different levels throughout the school. In this way the school is organised into manageable groups, each catering specifically to the needs (academic, social and physical) of students at a particular age and stage of development.

Middle School

The Head of the Middle School is concerned with the Pastoral Care of students in Years 8, 9 and 10. The two Assistant Heads help the transitional years, one with Year 8 and one with Year 10. Our pastoral care program operates at three distinct levels. All subject teachers take a pastoral role. Helping students to develop into self-directed learners clearly involves dealing with issues such as responsibility, reliability, honesty as well as general study skills, on a daily basis.

Discipline

The Rockhampton Grammar School has high expectations of its students. The school rules are made with the welfare of the whole community in mind and all subscribe to the basic principle that anything contrary to common sense, good manners and decency is contrary to the rules of the school. Discipline is firm yet fair, and is designed to ensure that the comfort, safety and rights of all students are protected. Students are encouraged to take pride in themselves and in their School.
